Mary Louise Colletti

April 25, 1934 - April 16, 2025

Mary Louise Colletti, age 90, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. She was born on April 25, 1934, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Euel Nichols and Maggie Chaney Nichols. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Colletti; three sisters, Elaine Loise Nichols, Bernice Prillaman, and an infant sister; and two brothers, Layton Nichols and Milton Nichols.

Mary retired from Bassett-Walker after 20 years of dedicated service. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles, and savoring her favorite treat, Little Debbie Peanut Butter Crème Cookies.

She especially treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them. Mary had a special bond with her two youngest great-grandchildren, often spoiling them with ice and milkshakes. In return, they introduced her to the world of YouTube, while she shared her love of dancing by teaching them how to Jitterbug—a cherished connection across generations.

One of Mary’s fondest memories was her visit to the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee, and she remained a devoted fan, regularly watching the show on television.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Annette Thacker of Martinsville, Virginia; her son, William Michael Colletti (Stephanie) of Boulder, Montana; four grandchildren, Tony Foley Jr. (Celeste), Crystal McBride (Glen), Ashley Underwood (Dee), and Damien Colletti; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister Era Mae Rakes (Clayton) of Henry, Virginia. She also leaves behind many extended family members and cherished friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
