Laura Ann (Maddle) Payne

October 30, 1953 - May 11, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Ann Maddle Payne, aged 71, who left this world on May 11, 2025, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Born on October 30, 1953, in Washington D.C., Laura lived a life full of love, dedication, and creativity.

Laura was married to Fred F. Payne on August 22, 1970, and they shared many beautiful years together until his passing in 2018.

Laura was the daughter of Billy Ray Maddle and Hazel Mosteller Burdette, both of whom preceded her in death. Also to precede her death was sister, Vickie Curry. She is survived by her stepfather, Walter D. Burdette. She is survived by a multitude of loving relatives, including her siblings: Eileen (Dixie) Lewis, Terry Burdette Levy, Cheryl (Mark) Potzner, and Robin (Robert) Hux. Laura was preceded in death by her son, Fred Anthony (Patricia) Payne. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Michael (Wendy) Payne, Jennifer (Michael) Bowie, and Jamie (Jasen) Buschman. She took great joy in the company of her many grandchildren: Abigail Payne, Bella Payne, Emily Payne, Nolan Payne, Alexander Payne, Trevor Payne, Rylan Payne, Colby Payne, and Michael Bowie. She loved sharing pictures of her great-granddaughter: Madelyn Gentry. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family will carry forward with love and gratitude.

Laura found joy in her work as a bus driver for over 25 years, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. Her warm smile and kind spirit made her a cherished figure in the lives of those she transported.

She loved to spend time with friends, sharing laughter and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Spring Oak at Bedford, whose compassionate care for Laura over the past few years brought her comfort and joy. We are also incredibly grateful to the dedicated doctors and nurses of Lynchburg General Hospital for their unwavering commitment and care during her time there.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date. Those who knew and loved her are invited to remember her spirit, her laughter, and the love she poured into every moment of her life.

Laura Ann Payne leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and resilience. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved by her family and friends.
