Ann Marie Merricks Wood

Ann Marie Merricks Wood, 94, passed away on May 22, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born on November 17, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Bessie Wright Merricks and the late Will Merricks. She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Richard Otha Wood.

Ann was of the Christian Faith, and a longtime faithful member of County Line Christian Church. She and her husband worked for many years on the family farm, previous to her retirement, where she later enjoyed being a loving homemaker to her entire family.

Ann is survived by a son; Richard D. Wood of Chatham, VA; a grandson; Steven D. Wood; a sister; Pauline Merricks Woodall; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren; and special friend; Pat Prevette.

In addition to her Husband and Parents, Ann was predeceased by her siblings; Walter Merricks, Odie Merricks, Wallace Merricks, Jack Ervin Merricks, Ella Cowan, Ava Merricks, and Willis and Helen Merricks.

The family would like to thank all her caregivers, especially Stephanie Holland and Crystal Cobb. They would also like to thank Karina with Amedisys Hospice, who all have become like their family.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to County Line Christian Church, 12711 Chatham Road, Axton, VA 24054, or Camp Pitt, 1232 Oxford Road, Chatham, VA 24531.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA , with Pastor Dean Ashby and Pastor Tim Manness officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.
