Robert Franklin HyattDecember 11, 1936 – May 26, 2025 – EternityRobert Franklin Hyatt, fondly known as R.F., Dad, Granddaddy, and Great-Daddy, lived a life of 88 years hallmarked with faith and family. Born and raised in Georgia, R.F. was the youngest of 5 children born to the late Franklin Amos and Mary Pearl Eley Hyatt. R.F. valued education, attending Mercer University for his Bachelor of Arts degree with a triple major in psychology, history, and sociology, followed by a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. It was there that he met Dalene, his beloved wife of 57 years. R.F. and Dalene moved to Roanoke, Virginia, where they built their life and family together. R.F. pursued a career of serving others as a Roanoke County Juvenile Probation Officer (1963-1969), Superintendent of Roanoke City Juvenile Detention Center (1969-1988), and Administrator of Roanoke City Nursing Home (1988-1997). He cherished his family - selflessly loving, serving, and caring for his wife, daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandsons - creating many special memories. His love and support were evident as he joyfully had a helping hand ready for whatever task needed to be done and faithfully attended each event, celebrated every birthday, and supported every pursuit of the girls. R.F. lived out his faith in Jesus Christ in his everyday life. He gave generously, always had a listening ear, was patient, gentle, kind, loved largely, and leaves a legacy of godly character that will forever live on in the impact he made on his family and each person he encountered.R.F. is survived by his daughter: Lorisa (Mike) Lawson; his granddaughters: Tiffany (Jon) Matlock, Rachel (Taylor) Mitchell, Katherine (Scott) Pettipiece; his great-grandsons: Caleb Matlock, Daniel Matlock, and Elias Mitchell; and many cherished friends.He was preceded in death by his treasured wife: Dalene Hyatt; his parents: Franklin Amos and Mary Pearl Eley Hyatt; and his siblings: William Harnell Hyatt, Jewell Amos Hyatt, Bryant Lee Hyatt, Martha Jane Hyatt (Horace) Allen.Family and friends are invited to a time of celebration, remembrance, and message by Jon Matlock at 10:00AM, Thursday, May 29, 2025 in the Chapel of Light at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Avenue, SW, Roanoke, Virginia 24015.
