Helen Poulos Popple
Helen Poulos Popple, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born on April 18, 1929, in Newport News, Virginia, to Otilia Rinklin and Peter Poulos, Helen lived a vibrant life filled with love, adventure, and devotion to her family.
Helen was married to the love of her life, Clarence Popple, for 59 years. As an Air Force wife, she embraced the opportunity to live in diverse places, including Labrador, Boston, and California before retiring back to Hampton, Virginia. She took immense pride in being part of an Air Force family, cherishing the experiences and connections forged through their travels.
Following Clarence’s passing in 2011, Helen moved to Lynchburg, Virginia to live with her daughter, Diane Miller, and her husband, Bob Miller. Diane and Bob welcomed her with open arms, creating a warm and nurturing home. The last seven years of her life were spent at Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg, supported and cared for by their excellent staff. They showed her so much love.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care that her son-in-law Bob provided on a daily basis, ensuring that Helen remained closely connected to her family until her final days.
Helen is predeceased by her beloved husband Clarence and her precious great-granddaughter Greta Greene, and is survived by her daughters, Susan Frierson and Diane Miller; her son-in-law, Bob Miller; her grandchildren, Stacy Greene (Jayson Greene) and Jack Frierson (Lesley Fine); her great-grandson, Harrison Greene ; as well as six cherished nephews and a niece, the children of her brother, Peter Poulos and his wife Gabrielle.
Helen’s warmth, grace, and unwavering love for her family will be forever remembered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
