Alice Tyree Showalter

September 27, 1953 - July 23, 2025

Alice Tyree Showalter, 71, of Gladstone, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born on September 27, 1953, in Virginia, she came into the world in her great grandparents’ log cabin and was delivered by her great grandmother, Lucinda Peters. She was the daughter of the late James and Ethel Tyree. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ray Showalter; and a brother, Bradley Tyree.

Alice was a deeply creative soul who found joy in painting and crafting whenever she had the chance. Her artistic spirit brought beauty into the lives of those around her. She also loved shopping and treasured outings to dinner with her friends and family, always cherishing the time spent with loved ones. Alice will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of many. Alice retired from Amherst County schools where she displayed compassion for children with special needs. She was a Nelson County High and CVCC graduate and attended Sweet Briar College. She was a member of St. Stephen's Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Brian Showalter (Chris); sister, Cinda Herman (John), brother, David Tyree (Shannon); five grandchildren, Hanna Showalter, CJ Showalter, Wilson Snyder, Olivia Snyder and Parker Snyder; great grandchildren, Braiden, Dakota and Autumn; sister-in-law, Faye Tyree; special aunt, Ruth Showalter; special friend, Tara Rice; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the MICU staff at Lynchburg General Hospital and the Amherst Rescue squad for the care and compassion shown to Alice.
