John "Buck" R. Whitlock

John R. “Buck” Whitlock, 90, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 25, 2025. He was born on December 21, 1934, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late Esley F. Whitlock and Lessie Witt Whitlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Mike Whitlock; his sister, Evelyn Daniels; and two brothers, Roy Whitlock and Carl Leonard Whitlock.

John was a longtime member of Valley Drive Baptist Church and was deeply committed to his faith and church family. He retired from DuPont, where he worked faithfully for many years.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Norma Jean Whitlock; two sons, Bobby Whitlock (Joan) and Johnny Whitlock (Cristy); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Billy G. Whitlock and Jerry Whitlock; daughter-in-law, Melissa C. Whitlock Cassell, along with extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel with Pastor Bobby Rakes and Pastor Jared Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
