William Roscoe Cumbee

William Roscoe “Bill” Cumbee, 88, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 25, 2025. Born December 31, 1936, in Craig County, Va., to the late Homer and Blanche Songer Cumbee, his is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Cumbee, and his brother, John Cumbee.

Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served from 1952, until his honorable discharge at Fort Sheridan in Illinois, in 1954. He worked for Valleydale Foods meat packing plant in Salem until his retirement. Bill was a faithful member of Glenvar Baptist Church for many years. Bill was a loving father and a doting “Daddy Bill” to his grandchildren.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Elaine Diamond and husband, Allan of Salem; grandchildren, Ashley Diamond White and husband, Anthony, of Salem and Christopher Diamond and wife, Ashley, of Salem; great-grandchildren, Afton Diamond and Atlas Diamond, of Salem; and sisters, Eunice Williams, of Pembroke, Va., Dorothy Epling of Salem, Darlene Woodie of Rustburg, and Patsy Minnix of Rustburg.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services, with military honors, will begin at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Matt King officiating. Interment will be private.
