Philip Wagner Bonar
Philip Wagner “Phil” Bonar, 85, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in Glen Dale, West Virginia, on October 23, 1939, Phil was a man of deep faith, integrity, and unshakable character. A graduate of Marshall University with a degree in Business Administration, he spent several decades in retail management before dedicating his life to service at Bible Baptist Church and Clinton Christian School. Phil served as the Financial Manager for both institutions and was the Chairman of the Deacon Board for over 30 years. His commitment to his faith and family defined every aspect of his life.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, D’Ann Bonar (Lines); their three sons, Philip W. “Chip” Bonar and wife Susana, Steve L. Bonar and wife Cherie, and Jonathan B. Bonar and wife Cathryn; seven grandchildren, Joshua Bonar, Joseph Bonar, Landon Spataro, Alexandra Holden, Shaylyn Bonar, Jonathan Bonar II, and Logan Bonar; and four great-grandchildren, Maeve, Oscar, Everest, and Ellory. He is also survived by his brother, Challen “Gip” Bonar and wife Sarah, and his sister, Christine Suber and her husband Robert.
A celebration of Phil’s life and faith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Pate Chapel, Thomas Road Baptist Church, with Pastor Jonathan Falwell and Pastor Jonathan Bonar officiating. Interment will follow in the Tree of Life Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Phil will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering character, and integrity, as well as his profound love for God and his family. He leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
