Johnnie Lewis Jones

Johnnie Lewis Jones, 85, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born on May 4, 1940, in Henry County to the late Lewis Irving Jones and Johnnie Lucille Moore Jones. He graduated from Martinsville High School and traveled to California to participate in a National Science Fair. Johnnie received a degree in Commerce in 1962 from the University of Virginia and became a lifelong Virginia fan. 

He was a Captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and served as an electronic warfare officer on B52 bombers. He was married to his wife Mary for 56 years and worked for many years at Bank Services of Virginia. Johnnie was friendly, full of life, and enjoyed many adventures with his friends and family. Until his death he continued to meet regularly with his high school classmates and visit with his friends at the Elk’s lodge. 

Johnnie is survived by his wife, Mary; son Kevin Lewis Jones (Rebecca); daughter Kelly Jones Ball (Chris); grandsons, Jacob Ball, Carson Ball, and Holden Jones; granddaughter Harper Jones; sister Pat Austin (Ron); and nephew Jay Austin (Ann). 

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with Pastor Palmer Lowery officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
