Effielou Fuller

Effielou Fuller Hazel Effielou Fuller née Smith, died August 2, 2025, at Hillsville Health and Rehabilitation Center. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Vanessa Fant and the nursing staff for the excellent care provided during her time there. Effie was born on October 7, 1929, in Tazewell, VA. A longtime resident of Narrows, Virginia, Effie and her husband Jack raised their family there. She was a member of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Red Ash. Effie worked many years both at the Celanese Plant and as a cook for New River Nursing Home. She was known for her amazing country cooking, miraculous green thumb, and the delight she took in family, particularly her grandbabies and great grand babies. Effie loved life and embraced it with a whole and joyful heart. 

Preceding her in death were her father and mother, George Robert Smith and Mary Serepta Smith née Lawson, husband Arthur Ensley “Jack” Fuller, sons Darrell Lyn Fuller and Stephen Ensley Fuller, daughter-in-law Elisabeth Fuller, her brothers George Cruey, Bascom Smith, Walker Smith, Hassell Smith, Louie Smith, Troy Smith, Raymond Smith, Chester Smith, and Melvin Smith, sisters Carrie Smith, Lois Smith, Gloris (Smith) White, Cora Smith, and Katie (Smith) Mutter. Left to cherish her memory are brothers Lloyd Smith, Roba Smith and Clyde Smith, daughter Sherry Johnson, son-in-law Matthew Johnson, grandchildren Matthew Martin, Brandon Martin, Brittany Archer, Savana Ashley, Anne Fike, and Eresbet Spain, and three precious great grandchildren. 

Funeral services for Effie will be conducted August 6, 2025, at 2pm at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel, presided over by Elder Beavers with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Givens - Riffe Funeral Chapel one hour before the service, from 1-2pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Shenandoah National Park Trust at https://www.snptrust.org. She moved mountains while she walked among us — now, at long last, she rests in peace and power.
