Norma Jean Ashby

Norma Jean Ashby, 77, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was born on September 27, 1947, in War, West Virginia, to the late William Ray Barlow and Zena Toler Barlow.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Dennis Harrison Ashby; sister, Barbara Lawrence; and brothers, William Ray Barlow, Jr., Edward Franklin Barlow, Ivan L. Barlow, and Wylie Ervin Barlow.

Not only was Norma a dedicated employee of Hooker Furniture for 15 years, but she was also a beautician. In her leisure time, she could be found crafting and making beautiful wreaths or simply enjoying sitting on the front porch. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life like ice cream, Skinny Pop popcorn, and scratch-off lottery tickets. But nothing brought as much happiness as loving and caring for others and spoiling her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the recipients of so much love and the memories she made with each of them will forever be imprinted on their hearts.

Norma has left behind a legacy of love to a host of family and friends including her daughters, Kimberly Rea (Randall Hutcherson), Lisa Wilson (Brad); grandchildren, Lindsey Nester (Bryson), Macey Wilson, Natalie Wilson, Kelsie Rea, Hollie Wilson; great-grandchildren Emerie Nester, David Nester; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and her beloved dog, Sophie.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. A.C. Palmer. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
