Carol started her life’s journey in Winston Salem, NC with parents Georgia and Arthur Keith and her only brother Don. Carol spent her early years in Winston Salem, NC while her father served in the Navy in WW II and her mother taught elementary school. After her father’s return, Carol’s family moved to Signal Mountain, TN near Chattanooga. She completed her education through high school and some college courses while living there. She met Rex Cox at the University of Chattanooga (now UT) and they married on June 10, 1961. After Living in Oxen Hill, MD for 5 years and birthing 2 children, Carol and her new family moved to Lynchburg, VA in 1967. Her third child was born in 1968. Carol courageously reentered College in the late 80’s and received her RN in 1990, lending to a career in Labor and Delivery at Va Baptist Hospital. She often commented that she had the honor and joy of admitting and caring for her son Russell’s newborn grandchildren at VA Baptist Hospital. After retirement she enjoyed her time volunteering at church and playing Mahjong with her dear friends.

Although a talented singer, floral designer, all around crafter, nurse, and homemaker, she often said her proudest and most important accomplishment of her life was her children.

Carol was also a very active member in Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 57 years. She was a part of Lutheran Church Women groups in the 70’s & 80’s, worked on many paraments for the church, decorated the church for different important events in the liturgical calendar, helped with communion as a lay person, and gave the gift of her singing through the choir. (Carol was very generous with her time and resources. She often gave gifts to those around her to show appreciation as well as concern.)

Her love for her family, church, friends, and her pets was profound. Her light shone through her and warmed many throughout her life. She helped make the world a better place and will be sorely missed.
