Jimmie "Jimbo" Ray Tooley
Jimmie Ray Tooley of Salem, Virginia was called home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2025 at the age of 83.
Jimmie “Jimbo” was born and raised in McComas, West Virginia. After marrying the love of his life, Diana Sue Whitt, they moved from West Virginia to Salem where they built a home and have lived until his homegoing.
He retired from Crouse Hines (originally Gardner Denver) after over 40 years. When not working, you could find him in his yard, tending to his garden, or playing with his train collection. He was an avid fan of steam locomotives and passed that passion to both of his sons and his grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Tooley, 2 brothers and 4 sisters, and his fur baby, and best buddy, Sophie.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60+ years, Sue, sons Michael (Julie) and Anthony, daughter-in-law Dawn, grandchildren Shane and Sarah (Ty), brother Johnnie, sisters Brenda, Vickie, Darlene and Hazel, and many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Jimmie’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at noon at the Abbey Chapel in Sherwood Memorial Park. Graveside service will be a private gathering for the family. Pastor Roger Counts of Calvary Baptist Church will be officiating the services. Arrangements have been handled by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for all of their love and care not only for Jimmie but for Sue and all of us.
