Charles Patterson "Chuck" Carter Jr.
Charles Patterson “Chuck” Carter Jr., 69, of Appomattox, Va, passed away on Saturday August 16, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Joan Wright Carter.
Born in Lynchburg, Va, on October 24, 1955, he was the son of the late Annie Brizendine Carter and the late Charles Patterson Carter Sr. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.
Charles served for decades and spent countless hours volunteering. He was a Lynchburg Amateur Radio Club member, serving as club liaison to Campbell County Emergency Service. Charles served as an aide station coordinator for community races, including the Virginia 10 miler, Mountain Masochist Trail Run, Grindstone Trail Running Festival, and many others. He served on the Appalachian Trail Club – Natural Bridge AT Club as sawyer and trail maintenance leader for miles of trail, including the Henry Lanum Trail. He was a US Forest Service Glenwood Pedlar District volunteer, spending hundreds of hours maintaining the South Pedlar ATV trail in Amherst County and served as law enforcement and sawyer liaison. Charles was also a Civil War Reenactment Battlefield Performer, serving in the 11th Virginia Infantry Company G, the Staunton Artillery Unit, firing muskets and canon artillery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Melanie D. Carter of Bristol, TN; one grandson, Ely J. Carter-Williamson; two sisters, Linda W. Huff of Lynchburg and Rebecca C. Cash and husband, Danny of Madison Heights; numerous nieces and nephews; and his three canine companions, Jerry Lee, Satchmo, and Kallie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rose M. Staton.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Mark Snowden.
The family invites friends to visit with them following the service.
