Richard Troy Elliott
Richard Troy Elliott, Sr., 90, of Rustburg, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories, and is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Frances Lee Elliott.
Born on April 18, 1935, in Rustburg, Troy was the son of the late Richard R. Elliott and Alice Blankenship Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Vivian Moon, and his beloved granddaughter, Trinity Dawn Burks.
Troy was best known in the community as the proud owner and operator of Elliott's Garage, where he built a reputation for honesty, hard work, and mechanical skill. Outside the garage, he was a man of many passions. A lifelong NASCAR fan, he never missed a race and held Dale Earnhardt as his all-time favorite driver. He had a love for the open road, enjoyed riding motorcycles, and had a deep appreciation for classic cars—especially his prized 1969 Jaguar and his El Camino.
A man who relished the simple joys of life, Troy loved spending time on the water, boating and soaking up the sunshine. A self-proclaimed cigar connoisseur and a stylish dresser, he was known for his ever-growing hat collection and his flair for fashion.
Troy is also survived by his five children: Loretta Elliott Wright (Hugh), Robert Doyle Minnix, Jr. (Andrea), Kimberly Minnix Lambert, Richard Troy “Rocky” Elliott, Jr., and Christopher Scott Elliott, Sr. (Meredith); his sisters, Doris E. Edwards (James) and Thelma E. Shippe (Richard); 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A service celebrating Troy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Shippe officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
The family would also like to gratefully acknowledge Centra Hospice for the wonderful care they provided, especially Jennifer and Mary.
