Jesse Earl Owen
Jesse Earl Owen, age 86, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his home in Chatham, VA, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Wilson and Catherine Owen, and his brother, Wilson Owen Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dee Anna Cundiff Owen; his sons, Kevin Earl Owen (Christi) and Norman Kent Owen (Tammy); three grandchildren, Emily O. Johnson, Daniel Owen, and Morgan O. Osborne; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Owen, and Evie Johnson; and his two sisters, Eleanor O. Haskins (G. Wayne) of Chatham, VA, and Elaine O. Rosenboom (Art) of Colorado.
A lifelong resident of the Climax community, Earl graduated from Climax High School in 1957 and went on to earn a diploma from the Auto Diesel School in Nashville, TN, which he applied in his farming work. He later worked as manager of the hardware department at Sears, Roebuck and Company for 14 years, while continuing to farm on his days off.
Earl was an active member of the Climax Ruritan Club and a devoted member of Greenpond Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for many years as Trustee. Farming was his lifelong passion-he loved it and lived it, even when he was no longer able to do the work himself.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Earl’s caregivers; Gloria Starling, Stephanie Jefferson, Amy and Star Holley, Janet Craft, and Debra Galvez, as well as his hospice nurses, Karina, Carol, and Kiesha from Amedisys Hospice Care.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 2:00pm, at Greenpond Baptist Church, 7176 Anderson Mill Road, Chatham, VA with Pastor R.G. Rowland Officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held previous to the service on the same day from 1-2:00pm also at Greenpond Baptist Church. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
