Mary Lorena Jones Wright

Mary Lorena Jones Wright, age 94, of Chatham, Virginia entered Heaven’s Glory on August 23, 2025. Mary was born October 17, 1930 in Dry Fork, Virginia to the late Leonard Frank Jones and Jessie Stowe Jones. She married the love of her life, Harry Lee Wright, on October 17, 1947. He predeceased her on January 9, 2018.

Mary was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She was a devoted member of Hopwell United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, including President of United Methodist Women, Mission Chair, Administrative Council member, and Sunday School teacher for over 64 years. She also served as Chaplain for both the Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Tunstall Young Homemakers for many years.

Music brought Mary the greatest joy in her life. She was a devoted choir member all her adult life. She sang in several groups including the Hopewell Trio, the Victorian Quartet, Voices in Praise, and In Danville Senior Citizens Choir.

She is survived by two sons, Sherrille L. Wright (Diane) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Vaden L. Wright (Emily) of Chatham, Virginia. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grand-children, and five siblings, Yvonne Byrd (Wayne), Charles Jones (Elizabeth), Leroy Jones (Elizabeth), Posey Jones, and Kathleen Varian.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by two daughters, Hope Adams and Jana Smith, and six siblings, Frank Jones, Ralph Jones, Sr., Hannibal Jones, Willie Jones, Susie Jones, and Dollie Keesee.

A celebration of life will be held on August 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell United Methodist Church, with Reverend Ronnie Gibson and Dr. Chris Jones officiating. The interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. immediately before the funeral.
