Christine "Chris" Evelyn Lockett Harris

July 23, 1932 - August 21, 2025

Christine Evelyn Lockett Harris went to be with our Lord Jesus on August 21, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born July 23, 1932 in Salem, Virginia to Allen Watson Lockett and Sarah Elizabeth Minnix Lockett. She lived in Salem, Virginia until the last ten years of her life when she moved to Richmond, Kentucky with her eldest son and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Maxwell Kenney Harris, siblings Archie Wells, Josephine Barksdale, Emma Jean Hilton, Virginia Ulrey and Ruth Hubble; her son Robert Harris and great-great granddaughter Olivia Smith. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Bonnie Harris, sons Kenney (Cindi) Harris and Ricky (Jeri) Harris, Grandchildren Jon (Donna), Jay (Laura), Phillip Harris and fiancé Amanda Brown, Jennifer (Dustin) Slightham, Dawn (Adam) Scharf, Heather Harris and fiancé Jalen Hayden; 18 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren, a special niece and nephew Bill and Linda Buchanan, extended family and friends.

Chris was hospitable to all and loved people; she was resourceful and giving. After being saved at age 17 at Calvary Baptist in Salem, she attended church faithfully until her health declined. In the various churches she attended she rocked many babies in the nurseries and served in their kitchens. Her passion was cleaning whether at church or helping friends and family in their homes. She was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and decorating the bulletin board. Chris worked for over 22 years at Valleydale Meat Packers and ended her career at Lewis Gale Hospital where her favorite job was as a lab aide.

Funeral services will be held at Lotz Chapel, E. Main St., Salem, Virginia on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Hilton Jeffries and Rev. Rick Harris officiating. Intermont will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th, 2025.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to Grace Bible Camp in Goshen, Virginia, Hospice Care Plus in Richmond, Kentucky, or a church of your choice.
