Donna Louise Houston

Donna Louise Houston of Roanoke, VA passed away peacefully on September 4 at the age of 88. Born in Kane, PA on March 13, 1937, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was known for her tenacity and gypsy-like free spirit. Some people called her Donna. Others called her Ms. Houston. But to those who loved her the most, she was always just “Bub.”

Donna's life was enriched by her unyielding love for dogs, knack for gardening, and daily enjoyment of sweets to eat. She loved the beach and spent countless hours in the quiet sunshine, reflecting on all life’s blessings. She was also an avid sports fan who loved rooting on her beloved Pittsburgh Penguins and Golden State Warriors. But perhaps her strongest passion of all was that of being a mother and grandmother to those who will always remember her as their “Bubie”.

She will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her children Cheryl (Allen) Jenkins, Gary Wolfe, and Michael Plavney; grandchildren Wayne (Kimberly) and Kendra; and great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Abigail, Alexander and Layla, as well as incalculable extended family and friends across the country.

A family gathering to celebrate her life will be held on Siesta Key Beach in Florida at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the League for Animal Protection in Fincastle, VA (https://paypal.me/LAPFincastle), an organization close to her heart.
