Jo Anne Catlett Martin

Jo Anne Catlett Martin, 90, of Appomattox passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of J. Gordon Martin for 70 years.
Born on November 16, 1934, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Foster Catlett and Corrine Coleman Catlett. Jo Anne taught in Buckingham and Appomattox School Systems until she retired at the age of 70. She taught at every level of education from elementary through high school. Jo Anne graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration. After starting her teaching career she received her Masters of Education from Lynchburg College. She was a member of Mt. Comfort Methodist Church where she was very involved with United Methodist Women at the district level. She was a member of Appomattox Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post #104, and was very active in Virginia Education Association. Jo Anne was a caregiver to her mother and brother prior to their deaths.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Stephanie Coleman and husband, Phillip, Millicent Martin, and Timothy Martin; and two grandsons, Drew Coleman and Tatum Martin.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Mark S. Catlett.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Friday, September 12, 2025, at Mt. Comfort Methodist Church with Pastor Wyatt Cudd officiating. Burial will follow in J.W.C. Martin Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at her residence.
