Shirley Hardy Holcomb
On September 9, 2025, Shirley Hardy Holcomb departed this life after valiantly facing declining health. She now rejoins loved ones who predeceased her: husband, Glennis E. Holcomb; parents, Harry D. and Nita B. Hardy; sisters, Barbara Ingram, Agnes Sarvis, Ruth Hardy; brothers, H.D., Jimmy, and Earl Hardy; and in-laws, M.K. and Lucy Holcomb. Also passing just a few months prior was her furry companion of seventeen years, Buddy Holcomb.
Surviving are son, Glenn Holcomb (Donna Craig); daughter, Cheryl Holcomb; grand-dog, Molly; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, D.L. and Bobbie Holcomb; brother-in-law, James Powell; many nieces and nephews; and devoted friend, Joanne Ferguson.
Those who knew Shirley have seen Energy-In-Motion. She retired from the Advertising and Marketing Department at Stanley Furniture Company after 30 years. Later, she worked with Bassett Printing in a part-time position, always enthusiastic about answering the call when help was needed. For the same reason, Shirley served Franklin County as an Emergency Medical Technician for several years. When home, Shirley was often seen on her riding mower or dragging a leaf-laden tarp to the woods. She loved working with bricks and creating rock gardens. No debris on her lawn stood a chance.
The family would like to thank Sarah Holcomb-Campbell and the staff at Fork Mountain Adult Home for their loving care during the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fork Mountain United Methodist Church in care of Peggy Brown, Treasurer, 1553 Fork Mountain Road, Bassett, Virginia 24055. Please specify the donation is in memory of Shirley.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00am at Henry Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Bennett, officiating.
