Mary A. Hopkins
Mary A. Hopkins, age 77, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2025.
Mary was born on August 12, 1948, in Beckley, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Mike and Mary Belleý. Throughout her life, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, remembered for the love for her family.
Mary spent more than 50 years in nursing, serving in roles that ranged from Registered Nurse to her later work as a Financial Analyst in healthcare. She was known for always giving her best, working hard in every role she held, and caring deeply for those she served. Her calling to nursing wasn’t just a career but a reflection of her love for doing her job with excellence.
Shortly after Mary was saved; she realized her calling of service would be music. She would go early in the morning before work and practice for an hour. She practiced during break and after work. And asked the lord, if you allow me to play this music, I’ll only play for you, and He did. She played at the two churches they pastored and was also the pianist at Faith Baptist Church. The family is now attending Wayside Baptist Church is Stuart.
She found joy in the simple things of life - working alongside Jerry on the farm, spending time with her dogs, Max and Dolly, and helping Jerry with his coon dogs. She even went hunting with him, just a few times. However, she preferred hunting for bargains on Amazon and Temu. These little pleasures spoke to her down-to-earth spirit and her ability to find joy in everyday moments.
Above all, Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife to her husband of 45 years, Jerry Hopkins, and enjoyedspending time with Jerry’s mother, Dove Joyce. She was the cherished mother of Scott Hopkins (Valarie) and Tonya Edwards, and the proud grandmother of five: Brittany Hopkins, Katie Hopkins, Stephanie Carr (Joshua), Colton Edwards, and Peyton Edwards. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Jacob Herring, Braxton Carr, and Weston Carr, who brought her great joy. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Rosalee Beavers and Teresa Dorsey (Stephen).
Mary’s life was rooted in faith, love, and devotion. She will be remembered for her compassion, her music that inspired worship, and the love she poured into her family.

She is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus, at peace and at rest. As our Lord promised in John 14:1- 3:"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
