Loraine Desmond Tingler

April 16, 1928 - September 15, 2025

Loraine Desmond Tingler, affectionately known as “Deppie”, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. She was born in Salem, Virginia on April 16, 1928 to John Walter and Rose Wertz. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leo Tingler, stepmother Nora Wertz, brother Malcolm Wertz, and sister Algene Garrett.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Yopp (Ken), and her son, Pete Tingler. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andy Yopp, Katie McGowan (Brian), Lindsey Malek (Stan), and Cassidy Montgomery (Sam). She is further survived by six great grandchildren, Madison, Griffin, Sawyer, Sutton, Madeline and Emmy.

Deppie was a devoted mother and Christian, and was always wearing a smile on her face. Her home was a warm and loving place, where many gathered to find peace and comfort. Her grandkids affectionately called her “Grandle” and “Granny”, and were notorious for dropping in to see her on a daily basis to “catch up” with their beloved grandmother. She was a lifelong Hokie fan that was constantly watching either a football or basketball game. She also loved flowers and taking care of the many plants throughout her home.

With her departure, we remember and treasure a life filled with love, compassion, caring and humility. Her wonderful legacy will continue for generations to come, for we are so blessed by her life.

Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Deppie are invited to Lotz Funeral Home in Salem for a celebration of life, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, a wonderful cause that is close to the family’s heart.
