Jimmy Alfred Foley
Jimmy Alfred Foley, 87, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Saturday, September 20, 2025. He was born in Buffalo Ridge, Virginia, on January 21, 1938, to the late William Arthur Foley and Clara LaPrade Foley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Vera Young and Nancy Bousman; and brothers, Lloyd Foley, Fred Foley, Robert Foley, Archie Foley, Kermit Foley, Earl Lee Foley, Arthur Foley, and Donald Foley.
Jimmy was a man of Christian faith and the Baptist denomination. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a dedicated employee at Bassett-Walker, retiring in 1992 after 30 years in a supervisory role. He was a man of varied interests, finding enjoyment in being with friends and family. Whether he was playing golf with friends or driving a race car, he was living life to the fullest. He developed skills for repairing vehicles and fully restored a 1935 Plymouth and a 1937 Chevy truck. He also worked for Lynwood Country Club, maintaining the golf carts. In his leisure time, Jimmy enjoyed playing Sudoku. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather who loved his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and are the recipients of his legacy of love and faith.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are a host of family and friends, including: his beloved wife of 66 years, Shelvie Harrison Foley; daughter, Terri Foley; son, Jay Foley; sister, Eva Dale Scearce; grandchildren, Hayley Kay Foley, Benjamin Hunter Foley; many nieces and nephews; good friends, George Collins and Bill Frazier; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at their residence. They wish to extend their sincere appreciation for the love and kindness shown during this difficult time.
