Donald Mitchell

Donald Richard “Don” Mitchell, age 84, of 2029 Carolina Road, Chesapeake, Virginia died on Friday, September 19, 2025 at his residence.
Don was born on November 28, 1940 in Wayne County, Michigan to the late Archibald Roderick Mitchell and Irma Jean Primeau Mitchell. He served in the United States Navy for over 20 years as a Boiler Technician Master Chief, and was a Field Engineer for George G. Sharp Co. He enjoyed wood working, furniture making, lawn care, and landscaping.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Overton Mitchell of Chesapeake; a daughter, Sharon Leigh Mitchell of Norfolk; four sons, Michael Patrick Mitchell (Wanda) of Marion, Richard Warren Mitchell of Louisiana, Robert Trajan Mitchell of Virginia Beach, and Darren Keith Mitchell of Grafton, WI; a sister, Sue Viers (John) of Hersey, MI; two half-sisters, Marianne Marmion and Jodi Roberts, both of Michigan; four step children, Anthony Mark Watts (Kim) of Henrico, NC, Gary Wayne Watts (Debbie)of Italy, Kristi Lynn Myers (Patrick) of Virginia, and Gregory Kyle Watts (Hunter) of Virginia Beach; twelve grandchildren; six step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Brandon Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will visit with friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
