John William Via

February 5, 1938 - September 27, 2025

John William Via, age 87, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Henry County, Virginia, on February 5, 1938, to the late John Jefferon Via and Virginia Mae Jefferson Via. Along with his parents, he preceded in death by his late wife, Priscilla Warren Via; brother, Gene Via; and nephews, Jeff Via and Greg Via.

John was a devoted member of Fort Trial Baptist Church in Stanleytown, where he faithfully served his community and built lifelong friendships. A true NASCAR enthusiast, he spent much of his younger years attending races and cheering on his favorite drivers. John’s greatest passion, however, was restoring antique cars, especially his beloved 1957 Chevrolets. His skill and dedication earned him numerous awards throughout the years, including two prestigious National Championships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Greensboro, North Carolina. Beyond his love of cars, John was a respected businessman and pillar of the Oak Level community. For 39 years, he proudly owned and operated Via’s Body Shop, where his hard work, craftsmanship, and integrity left a lasting mark. More than his accomplishments, John will be remembered for the legacy of love, family, and friendship he created along the way.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories are his wife, Judy Carroll Via; niece, Kelli (Jimmy) Woolard; bonus son, Aubrey (Michelle) Compton II; stepchildren, Kim (Dwayne) Robertson and Terry (Laura) Carroll; step-grandchildren, Taylor Vecchia, Gage Carroll, Tori Greer, and Blake Carroll; special bonus grandchildren, Caleb and Ian Compton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held for Mr. Via on October 2, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at Fort Trial Baptist Church in Stanleytown, Virginia, with Tony Beach officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will immediately follow at Henry Memorial Park in Bassett, Virginia.
