Larry Holman Williams

February 23, 1943 - October 2, 2025

Larry Holman Williams, born on February 23, 1943, passed away on October 2, 2025.

Larry was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was best known for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and the memorable one-liners that could light up a room. His generosity was boundless—he often gave freely, expecting nothing in return, simply because it brought him joy to bless others.

After proudly serving in the United States Army, Larry returned home and met the love of his life, Virginia, whom he later married. In 1979, they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey together and founded Lava Enterprises, a trucking company. Shortly after its founding, by what seemed like divine destiny, the company secured a contract to haul computers for IBM during the early 1980s personal computer revolution. This opportunity became the foundation for Lava Enterprises’ growth and lasting success.

In 1994, Larry and Virginia relocated the business to Danville, where Lava Enterprises grew into a thriving trucking operation. There, Larry had the privilege of working alongside his sons, building both a business and a legacy rooted in family. He went on to create two additional successful ventures in Danville — a portable storage business and a freight brokerage — further expanding his impact as a local entrepreneur. For their vision, leadership, and dedication, Larry and Virginia were honored together as Co-Entrepreneurs of the Year for Danville-Pittsylvania County.

Larry enjoyed fast cars and guns, passions that reflected his bold and adventurous spirit.

Larry was of the Christian faith. In the late 1970s, he experienced a powerful conversion at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, where he was led to the Lord by Rev. Rick Withrow. As a young child, his son Brandon remembers seeing his father on his knees in prayer, and how their home shifted from chaotic to joyous and happy. Larry’s faith continued to shape the way he lived and loved those around him for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his son, Brandon, and his wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Jeff Jr., Benjamin, Noah, Andrew, Bailey, and Mariah; and his faithful little dog, Dude, who rarely left his side.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia, and his son Jeff.

His legacy of humor, generosity, hard work, entrepreneurship, and faith will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., also at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel.

At other times, the family will receive friends and family at the residence of his son, Brandon Williams, 411 Pittwood Dr., Danville, VA.
