Nancy Marie Wimbush

Nancy M. Wimbush, 86, of Bassett, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on October 4, 2025, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, VA.

Born on May 3, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lawyer T. Wimbush and Pencie V. Wimbush. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Bassett, where she was deeply rooted in faith, family, and community.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jessie Wimbush and Early Wimbush; her sisters, Lillie Wimbush and Mary Stredrick; brothers-in-law, James E. Manns and Robert Stredrick; and sisters-in-law, Patricia A. Wimbush and Lucy Wimbush.

Nancy leaves to cherish her memory two devoted brothers, Samuel M. Wimbush and George Wimbush (Dinah) of Bassett, VA; sisters, Mildred Manns of Charlotte, NC, and Shirley Clemons (George) of Salem, VA; sister-in-law, Galvester Wimbush of Bassett, VA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A proud graduate of G.W. Carver High School, Nancy continued her education at Cortez Peters Business College in Washington, DC. She was a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and an esteemed member of the Daughters of Isis in Martinsville, VA.

Nancy dedicated much of her career to public service, working at the VA Regional Office and the United States Postal Service in Philadelphia, PA. She later retired from Eastman (formerly Martin Processing), leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at the Wimbush Family Cemetery in Bassett, VA.
