Michael Brown Jones
Michael Brown Jones, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was born in Danville, Virginia, on November 4, 1946, to the late Brown Jones and Elizabeth Folgeman Jones. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, LaVonne Sours and her husband, Tommy Sours.
Michael honorably served in the United States Air Force, contributing to our nation’s efforts during the Vietnam War.
His love for golf began early in life while working as a caddy, where he discovered a lifelong passion that would become his career. Over the years, he built an impressive professional legacy in the sport, serving as a greenskeeper, Assistant Professional, Golf Professional, and even Club Owner. His dedication to golf took him to many courses, including Eagle Creek Golf Course on Dover Air Force Base; Chatmoss Country Club in Martinsville, Virginia; Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head, South Carolina; Pilot Knob in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina; Forest Park Country Club in Martinsville, Virginia; Beaver Hills in Martinsville, Virginia; and Bassett Country Club in Bassett, Virginia. Michael was a proud lifetime member of the Professional Golfers’ Association.
Outside of his professional life, Michael enjoyed fishing and fixing anything. He was a jack of all trades. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above everything, he loved his children, his wife, Kathy, and his family. His memories will live forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Kathy Arnold; son, Clifton Michael Jones (Sarah Wardle Jones); daughter, Amy Jones Bedwell; step-daughter, Kelly; sister, Jennifer Richardson (Russell); and grandchildren, Soren Michael Wardle Jones, Ella Bedwell, Lily Bedwell, and Grayson Bedwell.
To honor Michael’s memory, there will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
