Faye Mccoy Simmons

Faye McCoy Simmons, 88, of 1553 Overland Terrace SE, Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Emory University Hospital Midtown, surrounded by her loving children.
Born in Millboro, Virginia, on April 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Roy Phillip McCoy and Stella Pearl Shanks McCoy. Faye was a retired nurse at Alleghany Regional Hospital and a proud member of the first graduating nursing class of Mountain Gateway Community College in 1972. She faithfully served as the first female Deacon of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church in Millboro Springs and lived her life guided by faith, compassion, and service to others.
Faye was a devoted wife, mother, and “Nennie.” She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Kenneth Lee Simmons.
She is survived by her son, Duane “Dewey” Simmons, and his partner, Bob Boyett, of Atlanta, Georgia; and by her four daughters and sons-in-law: Susan Faye and Dr. Ronald Goings of Clifton Forge; Cynthia Marie and Kelly Cosby of Richmond; Crystal Paige and John Bounds II of Eagle Rock; and Patricia Louise Robertson of Clifton Forge.
“Nennie” will be remembered with love by her 12 grandchildren: Rachel Goings Talbot (Matt) of Charlottesville; Joseph (Marin) Goings of Washington, D.C.; Samuel (Erik) Hebbe Goings of Austin, Texas; Peter (Erica) Goings of Sweden; Kyle (Jessica) Cosby of Richmond; Clay Cosby of Grottoes; Katie (Brant) Jones of Richmond; Laura Bounds of Richmond; John Bounds III (Betsy-Fiance) of Dallas, Texas; Michael (Kendra) Simmons of Low Moor; and Ryan (Syndall) Robertson and Taylor Robertson, both of Covington.
She is also survived by her beloved in-laws: Louise Venable Fultz of Bacova, Virginia; Dwight (Carol) Simmons of Seattle, Washington; Sue Cauley Simmons of Bridgewater, Virginia; and Ginger Simmons of Arlington, Virginia, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Nennie was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Jacob, Claire, and Caroline Talbot; Linnea Faye, Adler, and Elowen Goings; Malin and Ingrid Goings; Cole, Kaiden, and Kaia Cosby—and their sister, Calla, who now watches over them from Heaven; Grayson, Kinsley, and Maybri Jones; Genesis Fiddler and Allie Simmons; and Rysyn Robertson.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Chris Fischer and Rev. Rob Sherrard officiating. Interment will follow in Windy Cove Cemetery, Millboro Springs. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
A Nightingale Tribute will be presented in recognition of her many years of devoted nursing service.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. Friends are also welcome to visit at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Ronald and Susan Goings, 1717 Ridgevue Avenue, Clifton Forge, at any time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Faye McCoy Simmons Nursing Scholarship Fund at Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation, 1000 College Dr., Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
