Carlos Edward Matherly

Carlos Edward Matherly, 81 of Thaxton, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center.  He was born on Monday, May 8, 1944  in Montgomery County, a son of the late Guy Edward Matherly and Hazel May Ryder Matherly .  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Miller Matherly, his son, Connie Earl Hodges, his daughter, Janet Marie Ragland & his grandsons, Brandon Ragland & James Brown.

He was a retired truck driver with Averitt Express and enjoyed putting together model cars and doing arts & crafts.  He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Lee Brown (Ronald), Beverly Ann Foley (Dale); his grandson, Donnie Brown; his granddaughters, Delores Ann Ragland Jobst and Keshia Ervin ; his great grandchildren, Kaleigh Brown, Audon Gauge Severs, Sophie Elizabeth Ann Fielder, Noah Bradley Mason Briscoe, Lincie Adaline Bailey Briscoe; special friends, Dennis & Barbara Kennemore.  

A memorial services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Mike Huffman officiating.  Interment will follow in Holy Land Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford
