Joan Forrest Brown

Joan Forrest Brown of Java, VA died on October 18, 2025. She was born on May 28, 1938, in Durham County, NC, the daughter of the late Dr. Daniel Efland Forrest and Mary Louise Forrest of Hillsborough, NC. She is also predeceased by her loving husband, Glenn Allen Brown, and loving sister, Betsy Forrest Denton Jones. Surviving are her loving nieces and their families: Claire Grant, Laura Gauld, and Elisabeth Crittenden. Also surviving are her husband’s nieces and nephews, and their families: Helen Brown (sister-in-law), John Ragsdale, Allen Ragsdale, Patricia Roland, Becky Stephens, Nancy Terry, W.T. Terry, and Dennis Brown.

Joan retired from Ennis Inc. in Chatham, where she worked for many years in the Customer Service Department. After retiring, she loved working in her yard and entertaining family and friends in the Red Barn. She was a member of the Chatham Garden Club, enjoyed campaigning for her husband, Glenn, and was always available to help neighbors in the community.

Joan will be remembered by everyone who knew her for her grit, compassion, love of family, and the example she set by living a life of purpose and service.
