James Richard Ruley

James Richard Ruley, 78, passed away on October 19, 2025.

A native of Virginia he was the husband of 53 years to Thelma Ruley, who survives, and the son of Wade Hampton Ruley and Julia Fix Ruley, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and his sister. James was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a police officer with the Lexington and Buena Vista Police Departments for many years. James was of the Presbyterian faith. He loved to play his guitar and was an avid baseball fan, especially the New York Yankees and Virginia Tech Hokies.

In addition to his wife of 53 years those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Jennifer Fennell and spouse Gloria and Sammi Glock and spouse Calvin; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

At the request of James, no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

The family would like to thank the Emergency Department staff at Roanoke Memorial for their care and comfort provided.
