Doris Nadine Kelley

August 2, 1934 - October 23, 2025

Doris Nadine Kelley, 91, of Roanoke VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Sheila S. Strauss Good Samaritan Hospice House in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Wanda Rock, sister Betty Rock, and husband James S. Kelley.

Nadine is survived by her daughter Melanie Leweke and husband Scott; daughter Kathryn Glasgow and husband Kevin; sister Glenna Clem and husband Stan; grandsons Greg and Sam Glasgow; granddaughters Emma and Mary Leweke: nephew David Clem and niece Lori Clem and their children and grandchildren; and two wonderful lifelong friends, Linda Messimer and Shirley Biggs.

Nadine was born in Fireco, West Virginia where her father was a coal miner and inspector. Nadine’s early years were rooted in a Christian home full of love. She often spoke of her humble upbringing living in different coal mining towns. Nadine graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley,WV then moved to Clifton Forge, VA to study at the C & O School of Nursing. She married Harry Haskins, Jr. of Clifton Forge and moved to various cities in Virginia, settling in Roanoke where they raised their two daughters.

In 1987, Nadine married James Kelley, and they shared 21 years of laughter, love, travel, and Hokies football. They enjoyed spending time with their blended families and being active in Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Their home was filled with happiness until Jim passed away unexpectedly when they moved to Botetourt County. In 2023 Nadine moved to Harmony Independent Living in Roanoke, VA.

Nadine was loved by all who knew her, even if it was a short time. She never met a stranger and lived her life humbly and selflessly, always doing things for others. She was a talented seamstress and crafter who created many quilts, homemade greeting cards and baked goods for people. Nadine loved animals of all kinds, especially the family’s many dogs and cats. She adored her four grandchildren Greg, Sam, Emma and Mary, and they cherished her. Many people who knew Nadine describe her as one of the sweetest ladies they have ever met, and that her smile and sense of humor would light up a room. She will be terribly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank the staff of Harmony, the nurses of Good Samaritan Hospice House, her longtime beloved primary physician, Dr. Marie Malinchak, and the many family members and friends who have supported us during Nadine’s illness.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28 at 2:00 pm at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem VA with visitation held there at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
