Verna Mae Layne

Verna Mae Layne, 94, of Madison Heights, passed away Thursday m October 23, 2025, peacefully at her home surrounded by family and love.

Born in Lynchburg, December 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Montague and Lelia Campbell. She was a stay-at-home mother until her boys were grown. She later worked for the Amherst County Water Department where she enjoyed her customers and fellow workers. She was a lifelong member of the Lynchburg Church of the Brethren where she played the piano for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Layne and four children, Donna Sue Layne, Pamela Mae Layne, Barry Edward Layne and Rodney Lee Layne.

Mrs. Layne is survived by two sons, Jeffrey A. Layne (Janet) of Madison Heights and Kevin E. Layne (Pam) of Newbern, VA; four grandchildren, Jeremy Layne, Katherine Layne, Jenny Layne and Emily Conduff (Joey), and four great grandchildren, Ava Mae Layne, Eloise Conduff, Miller Conduff, and Bennett Conduff.

A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2025 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Marla Abe officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
