Elizabeth "Libby" Jane Shelton

Elizabeth “Libby” Jane Shelton, 91, of Stuart, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 24, 2025. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia, on September 9, 1934, to the late Steven and Estelle Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Shelton; her son, Ricky D. Shelton; great-granddaughter, Julie Shelton; sisters, Margaret Dodson, Marie Gibson, and Annie Mae Turner; and brothers, John Shockley Martin, James Martin, and W.F. Martin. Libby was the last surviving child of her parents.

Libby was a lifelong resident of the Fairystone Park community. She worked for many years in the textile industry at Bassett Walker and was known for her strong work ethic and kind heart. A woman of Baptist faith, she loved the Lord, her family, and her grandchildren deeply. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her loved ones, and caring for her faithful furbaby, Molly.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Joan Shelton of Bassett; three grandsons, Brad Shelton (Taylor), Garrett Shelton (Christina), and Brandon Shelton; three granddaughters, Jodie Shelton Hurlow (Nigel), Olivia Shelton Smith (Greg Petty), and Jennifer Shelton; along with nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Molly.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service. The funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor Don Reynolds and Pastor Calvin Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, 9962 Woolwine Hwy, Woolwine, Virginia, 24158.
