Dorothy Matilda Ballengee (née Morris)
May 17, 1939 – October 25, 2025
Known to all as Dottie, Dorothy Matilda Ballengee, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Cumming, Georgia, on October 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 17, 1939, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, Dottie was the cherished daughter of Hubert “Hip” Morris and Dorothy Lumsden Morris, both of whom preceded her in death.
Dottie served the public for many years as the welcoming face of the City of Fairfield, Ohio, where she worked as a receptionist throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Her warm smile and gracious spirit made her a favorite among colleagues and visitors alike.
A gifted gardener and interior decorator, Dottie took great pride in creating a beautiful and inviting home. Her yard was a testament to her love of landscaping, and her interiors reflected her impeccable taste and devotion to her family and close friends. She found joy in nurturing both plants and people, and her home was always a haven of comfort and care.
Dottie is survived by her son, Stephen Ballengee and his wife Catriona Brash of Melbourne, Australia; her daughter, Mary Virginia “Missy” Ballengee of Cumming, Georgia; and her grandsons, Christopher Acosta of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jonathan Acosta of Cumming, Georgia. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
A private burial will take place beside her beloved parents in the Morris family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge, Virginia.
