Shirley Burley Wheeler

May 17, 1938 - November 1, 2025

Shirley Ann Burley Wheeler, 87, of Amherst, went home to Glory to reside with our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Shirley was born on May 17, 1938, to the late Scott Nelson Burley and Rosie Duff Burley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thurston Elburn Wheeler; three brothers, Johnny Burley, Robert Burley, and Scott “Junior” Burley; and four sisters, Nellie B. Bailey, Mildred B. Mayberry, Estelle B. Creasy, and Dorothy B. Johnson.

She was known for her devout faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She served in various positions at Clifford Baptist Church, including treasurer and Sunday School secretary. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family deeply and selflessly, teaching them the Word of God and the love of Jesus. Her affection was a source of comfort, wisdom, and strength. She was the secretary/treasurer for Thurston E. Wheeler Logging. She managed her responsibilities with diligence and precision that kept the business successful. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to guide generations.

Shirley is survived by her son, Stephen Wheeler (Lisa); two granddaughters, Samantha McCormick (Kyle) and Taylor Ramsey (Cole); and six great-grandchildren, Mark, Harrison, Penelope, Luke, Tobias, and Charlie.

A service honoring Shirley’s life will be held at Clifford Baptist Church on Thursday, November 6th, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive family and friends an hour prior to the service from 12:00–12:45 PM. A graveside interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. Reverend Dr. Michael Fitzgerald and Reverend Jeffery Campbell will be officiating.
