Phyllis B. Sheppard

Phyllis B. Sheppard, 72, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospice Home in Roanoke, Virginia. She was born on December 28, 1952, to the late Grover Cleveland Jones and Frances Viar Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Akers Eugene Sheppard; her son, Darrel Scott Blackwell; and four sisters, Patsy Rozyski, Dixie Payne, Sandra Holthausen, and Brenda Bryson.

Phyllis retired after many years of dedicated service with Food Lion, where she served as the Pricing Manager. She had a passion for crafting, painting, and reading, with The Hunger Games series being among her favorites. A talented cook, she was well known for her delicious homemade potato soup. Phyllis also had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished dog, Ginger.

Above all, Phyllis cherished her family. She treasured every moment spent with her husband, son, and grandson, and was known for her kind and caring heart, always looking out for others. She enjoyed time spent with her grandson, Zachary, whether it was camping, boating, or playing board games. She always kept him close and safe.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Kay Carter (Shane); her beloved grandsons, Zachary Lowery and Brandon Shively; brother, Grover Anthony “Smokey” Jones (Jeanette); her special extended family, Demeteris & Leidre Childress along with their son, Kyle; Tony & Gail Hancock; and other loving family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
