Catherine Konecke Dix
Catherine Grace Konecke Dix, 100, went to be with the Lord on November 4, 2025.
She passed at the home of her son and daughter-in-law at 1141 Farmer Road, Blanch,
NC. Born in Newark, NJ to Henry Maurice Konecke and Grace Byrnes Konecke on
September 3, 1925, Ms. Dix grew up and spent her life in Brooklyn, NY, until moving
to Danville, VA after her marriage to Giles F. Dix on September 19, 1954. Even after
living in Danville for over 70 years, she was still so proud to be a “Brooklyn Girl”.
Ms. Dix was very involved in her community and was a member of many various
organizations around the city of Danville, including the Telephone Pioneers and
Salvation Army, and was a former volunteer at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was also a member of the American Legion Post 325 Ladies Auxiliary, being
named Lady of the Year in 1991, as well as a member of Rivermont Baptist Church.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Giles, her parents, siblings, Charles
Konecke, Lillian Varga, and Florence Johnson, and niece Anne Mary Konecke.
She is survived by her son, Charles and his wife Elizabeth, and granddaughter Rebecca
D. Whitehead and her husband, Thomas, nieces Diane Kaufmann, Patty Marsiglia,
Kathy Ricker, Christine D’Ovidio and nephews, George Varga, Mark Konecke and
Charles Konecke, as well as her beloved cat, Molly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to Rivermont Baptist
Church, 122 Sunset Place, Danville, VA 24540.
A special recognition to Medi Home Health & Hospice in Roxboro, NC for their
excellent care.
Pastor Joel Fletcher from Rivermont Baptist Church will lead a graveside service at
11:00 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2025, at Danville Memorial Gardens, Church Ave.,
Danville, VA.
