Henry Cecil Dixon, 88, of Amherst, Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born on December 20, 1936 in Siler City, North Carolina to the late Henry Stokes Dixon & Alice Fay Edwards Dixon of Reidsville, North Carolina.

Henry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Sandra Williamson Dixon, whom passed away this past July. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Dixon Johnson. Henry is survived by his daughter, Lisa Wilmer (Glenn) of Monroe, Virginia; his daughter Sherri Temple (Gene) of Amherst, Virginia. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Christopher Wilmer (Ellen) of Blue Ridge, Virginia; his granddaughter Jordan Rockwell of Lynchburg, Virginia. He also leaves his great-grandchild, Morgan Wilmer of Blue Ridge, Virginia. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Glenda Williamson of Thomasville, North Carolina and Linda Leonard (Mike) of Thomasville, North Carolina.

Henry was an active member of First Baptist Church of Monroe for many years. He very much enjoyed the fellowship of his church family and especially appreciated the members that visited with him after he was unable to attend. Henry worked hard for a living, in Greensboro, at a corrugated box company, very often working a double shift.

In 1970, he started to work for Old Dominion Box Company in Madison Heights, and moved his family to Amherst. He partnered with Ralph Sale in the cabinetry business for which he found a passion for this line of work. His family recalls they don’t believe there is a single home in the Amherst County area that Henry didn’t install the cabinets for. He loved fishing, camping, and hunting. He traveled all over the Carolinas from one fishing spot to the next. He frequented campgrounds and he even designed his owner camper using his skills from cabinetry. Henry’s family will always remember him and his wife, Sandra, as the avid card players they were and will continue to play Canasta and Rook always in their memory. The family would like to thank his kind caregivers during his last months. He received great care from his hospice team, as well as the staff at Fairmont Crossing.

The family appreciates the professionalism and compassion everyone showed his. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM with a one hour prior visitation at Driskill Funeral Chapel. Burial is to follow at Amherst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider giving donations to First Baptist Church of Monroe. Reverend Nancy Johnson will be officiating. The family requests those in attendance show up in casual attire. Norris Funeral Services – Driskill Chapel is serving the family.
