August 29, 1942 - November 21, 2025

Myrta Sue Harper Dye of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the age of 83.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Dye; parents, Frank and Myrtle Harper; mother-in-law, Hazel Dye; and daughter-in-law, Missy Dye.

Sue leaves behind sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Amy, and Bradley and Michaella; grandchildren, Luke, Benjamin, Samuel, and Jordan; and step-grandchildren, Weston, Elleston, and Halston LaBrie; brothers, Franklin and James Harper; and sisters, Mary Gore and Louise Teems; brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Sue was raised a farm girl, born in Ellijay, Ga. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and did so late into life. One of the greatest joys in Sue's life was being able to spend time with her grandsons. She was recruited out of high school by the FBI to work at the headquarters in Washington, DC as a switchboard operator where she met her future husband, Joe, and they were married for 51 years. Sue worked in the United States Government for over 30 years. She went from the FBI to GSA in DC, and then transferred to the VA in Salem, Va. Sue's contributions helped the USA win the Cold War and Space Race: the Soviet Union couldn't compete against someone like Sue, so efficient at processing bureaucratic red tape.

Sue was a Christian and loved serving through First Roanoke. Sue and Joe were in leadership with the Seniors Ministry, worked with AWANA and led a Life Group.

Many thanks to Harmony Memory Care and Legacy Hospice for their care of Sue.

A funeral service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 2 p.m., officiated by Seth Bryant of New Hope Christian Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
