George Dewey Shay

George Dewey Shay, Jr. 89, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 4, 2025. He was preceded by his parents, George D. Sr. and Fannye Tutt Shay; sisters, Mary Jo Shay, Jean Abshire, Nancy Moore, Martha Ann Pendleton, and Sue Roberts. George proudly served his country in the U S Air Force. He was a longtime member of Northview United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Gaynelle Guilliams Shay; daughter, Lisa Fouch (Dwayne); sons, Mark Shay (Sandra), Darin Shay (Tara); grandchildren, Allan Shay, Tim and Matt Shay, Ethan, Keely, and Darby Fouch, and Michael Shay; sister, Carolyn Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Northview United Methodist Church 521 Ridgecrest Drive Roanoke, Va. 24019

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2025 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Robin Barge and childhood friend Mr. Don McDaniel. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Simpson Funeral Home (540) 366-0707
