Marguerite "Rita" Berryman Overton

Overton, Marguerite (Rita) Berryman, 100, of Blacksburg, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025. She was born April 5, 1925, to the late Raymond Matthew, Jr. and Carol Brown Berryman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Purcell Overton. Rita was 5 years old when the Great Depression began and 16 when Pearl Harbor was attacked, which made her part of the Greatest Generation. She graduated from James Madison University. She was a faithful active member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church for 58 years serving Christ her entire life. She also was the Head Secretary in Mechanical Engineering for 17 years at V.P.I. & S.U. She is survived by her sons, John Byron Overton(Becky), Stephen Michael Overton, David Kevin Overton(Alyssa); grandson, Zachary K. Overton; and many extended family. Rita had a very kind spirited energetic personality, and was loved by all who knew her. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.
