Dewey Lee Collins
Dewey Lee Collins, 85, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed way on Thursday, December 4, 2025. He was born on September 22, 1940, in Bradshaw, West Virginia, to the late Lawrence French Collins and Rose Mae Beavers Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Collins, James Collins, Franklin Collins, and Michael Brown, as well as his sisters, Lucille Collins, Brenda Collins, and Pearl Collins Coleman.
Dewey lived a life marked by service, hard work, and kindness. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving faithfully from 1959 to 1962, during this time he was stationed in Korea and Fort Bragg, where he was a part of the 82nd Airbone. During his service, he earned several distinctions, including the Driver & Mechanic Badge with Driver “W” Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with Pistol Bar with Rifle Bar, Marksman Badge with Pistol Bar, and the Parachutist Badge – Basic.
Dewey worked for 35 years at Stone Container. Outside of work, he found joy in woodworking, watching Westerns, and spending time with those he loved. He was a man of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Trula Mae Bailey Collins; his son, Brian Lee Collins (Genia); and his daughter, Teresa Collins. Dewey was a proud grandfather to one grandson, one granddaughter, and the joys they brought into his life. He is also survived by his brother, Teddy Collins (Judy), along with several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 12:00 noon in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor John Bryant, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
