Rodney Gale Smith

Rodney Gale Smith, age 70, of Newport passed away, Monday December 22, 2025. Born in Giles County, Virginia on May 14, 1955, to the late Lois Hail Porterfield and Clarence Harvey Smith. Rodney is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Rebecca “Faye” Allen Smith and brother, Harvey Leon Smith. Rodney loved spending time with his family and fur companion Cooper, attending his grandkids sporting events, family vacations to Tennessee, and his weekly trip to the lake for family cook outs. Rodney will be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand and the love and passion for growing his plants. Rodney is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and JJ Helm of Newport, and grandchildren Marcus Cain and Desiree Helm; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Stacie Smith of Christiansburg and grandchildren Ryan Smith, Emma Cannon, Preston Smith, Kenzey Missino, Layla Fox, Hailey Harvey and Hazelynn Harvey; sister, Judy Farmer of Eggelston; brothers, Jimmy and Gennie Smith of Pembroke and Johnny and Pam Smith of Draper; mother-in-law, Wanda Allen of Newport. Special thanks to friends Bruce and Lisa Estes, Scotty and Donna Graham, and Larry and Paula Moore. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Connie Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 pm, on Friday, December 26, 2025, prior to the service.
