Jane Terrell

Jane Downey Terrell, age 88, of 2903 Winterberry Avenue, Covington, Virginia died on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Jane was born on March 14, 1937 in Low Moor, Virginia to the late Daley Lee Downey and Alma Bell Via Downey. She was a Title 1 Teacher’s Aide for the Alleghany County Public School System at Central Elementary School in Low Moor. She was a faithful leader of Low Moor Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder, prepared communion elements for years, sang in the choir, and belonged to the church circle. Jane was honored with the Presbyterian Women Life Membership for her work and dedication to Presbyterian Women’s Circle.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lewis Terrell, Sr. in 2024; two sons, Richard Lewis “Ricky” Terrell, Jr. and John Daley Terrell; a brother, Warren Downey; and three sisters, Margaret Ann Hylton, Nancy Lee Campbell, and Joan Downey Newman.

She is survived by a daughter, Tricia Patterson (Gene) of Kennesaw, GA; a son, David Kevin Terrell (Heather) of Rich Patch, Covington; a daughter-in-law, Susan Terrell of Covington; five grandchildren, Shana Hatzopoulos, John David Terrell (Ashley), Emily Anderson (Taylor), Meredith Williams (Austin), and Daley Terrell; four great grandchildren, Nicolas Hatzopoulos, Christina Terrell, Brianna Terrell, and Isabella Anderson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Lisa Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will visit with friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
