Robert Van Lear

Robert Alan Van Lear, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at his home on the Cowpasture River, the place he loved best. He found great joy in sharing the river, always encouraging family and friends to come and swim in the warm months. A day on the river was never long enough to suit him.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, W. G. and Thelma Van Lear. He is survived by his wife, Sandy F. Van Lear, his step-son, J. P. Harth, his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Tondalaya Van Lear, his three nieces, Eryn Van Lear and husband Bob, Katie Van Lear Poulsen and husband Jacob, and Sara Van Lear, along with three great-nieces and one great nephew.

In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
