Pauline Dalton Payne

Pauline Dalton Payne, 86, passed away on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her family. Pauline was born in Patrick Springs, VA on August 17, 1939 to the late Mildred Louise Branscomb Dalton and the late Cordan William Dalton. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Willard S. Payne Jr.

Pauline was of the Christian Faith and an active member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a Weaver at Dan River Mills Inc. previous to her retirement.

Pauline is survived by a son; Michael Payne and wife Marcia of Danville, VA; three daughters; Teresa Payne of Danville, VA, Donna Williams of Roanoke, VA and Arlene Smoot and husband Dave of Hendersonville, NC; seven grandchildren; Charles Smoot, Jeremy Payne (Cara), Amanda Whittaker (Dustin), Chase Williams (Julia), Jacob Jackson (Courtney), Syndney Payne, and Nathan Nickey; three great grandchildren; Kaylee Smoot, Emerson Whittaker, and Callen Whittaker; two sisters; Carolyn and Hazel; her special friend; Janet Hodnett; and her special Fur Baby; Rebel.

In addition to her husband and parents, Pauline was predeceased by two sisters; Wanda and Linda and a brother Norman.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Zach Hyler officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on the same day, previous to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
